Principles: Sacro Occipital Technic (SOT) is one of the most respected techniques in the American manual Medicine. SOT stands for Sacro Occipital Technic. "Sacro" means "related to, or associated with," the sacrum. The sacrum is the foundation for the spine.

"Occipital" means "associated with the occiput.

SOT is to normalizing the relationship between the foundation of the spine and the top of the spine. It is this relationship and how these two bones get along with one another, that has been proven to be so important in the normal functioning of the brain and spinal cord. The word "Technic" is another way of spelling "technique". Either word means "the way to get the job done, scientifically and in a short period of time". SOT recognises three bodily systems known as “Categories”..Each category corresponds to specific postural attitudes on the frontal plane. ”Category I” marks the involvement of the cranio-sacral system, “Category II ” is typical of an imbalance of the bodily weight transfer system, and "Category III" involves the functional system of the lumbar spine.

Method: First of all, the therapist, through careful examination of the frontal plane posture, must recognise to which of the three categories the patient belongs. S/he then performs a palpatory examination and runs elasticity and muscular force tests to confirm his/her initial observations. Correction is achieved by specific manual techniques and rigid wedges which are placed in different zones of the pelvis according to the observed category. The S.O.T. technic also includes cranio-sacral correction techniques as well as the technique known as "Chiropractic Manipulation Reflex Techniques" or CMRT.
